Many of us are seeing at least somewhat of a business slowdown due to the coronavirus. Nothing can take the place of paid work, but if you find yourself with more time on your hands than usual, take advantage! Here are some suggestions that will ultimately pay off for you and your business:
Revamp your marketing strategies.
Contact longtime clients and offer your help, person to person. Buy and deliver groceries for them. Run errands. Bring them a hot meal.
Check out online options for continuing education credits and get those knocked out for the year.
Broaden your knowledge on whatever it is you do. For me, as an adoption searcher, I am broadening my knowledge on genealogy.
Consider online courses and webinars. My friends, Kim and Hal, at PI Education have some solid choices. Hetherington Group has reputable online training seminars. My pal in Utah, Scott Fulmer, has a new course he’s offering in June.
Take some time to finally listen to that podcast you’ve been meaning to give your attention to. My favorites are My Favorite Detective Stories with John Hoda and PI’s Declassified with Francie Koehler.
Read up on some great articles in Pursuit Magazine, PI Magazine, and solid PI blogs like Diligentia Group, Kusic and Kusic, Denver Private Investigator’s Blog, The Ethical Investigator, Private Eye Confidential, and Guns, Gams, and Gumshoes.
Catch up on paperwork. Clean and organize your office. Clean off your desk. Knock out those little things that have a tendency to pile up.
Plan out and create that online webinar you’ve been considering teaching. Write that article you’ve been wanting to publish.
Talk to other private investigators about what they are doing during this slowdown. Kim Green and Hal Humphreys from Pursuit Magazine and PI Education just hosted a fun virtual cocktail hour last week where 25+ private investigators (and one brave attorney) discussed the current goings-on. Such a morale booster!
We are all in this together. Don’t give up. Just get creative.
